We are used to launching things that float so it was a refreshing change to host the rollout of a Gemini Class Submersible at the weekend.
The creators of the 5m long submersible SUBEO UK Ltd. selected Fox’s Boatyard for the painting and finish of this intriguing vessel and preliminary testing and evaluation. The sub may only be small but it weighs 3500kg so was lowered into the water using our hoist and then submerged in order to determine buoyancy. It was then weighed to finalise trim and fixed underwater buoyancy before being returned to the Boatyard for further testing and trials.
Sadly, we aren’t blessed with clear waters here on the East Coast so full underwater commissioning will be carried out where the sub is designed to operate.
