Meet Hobie Wright, one of Fox’s skilled workshop hands and a true boat fanatic. Hobie joined the team at Fox’s seven years ago after an 18-month apprenticeship at St Osyth Boat yard, where he gained his Level 2 Diploma in Boat Building.
Hobie's role involves a “bit of everything” across all the workshop-based departments, but his passion lies with the traditional boat building projects and classic yacht repairs. A particular favourite being the historic Thames River Cruiser, MV Havengore, which Hobie has had the pleasure of working on a number of times over the years. At the opposite end of the scale Hobie enjoys working on raceboats, in his words “an intense few months of work can deliver cool results”.
Hobie has been around boats all his life so it’s not surprising that when he’s not at work he’s still around boats. When he’s not sailing himself, Hobie volunteers for HM Coastguard and teaches young children to sail. It’s the first time in as long as he can remember that he’s not owned a boat himself – this could be something to do with a new addition to the family keeping him busy – his four month old son Finley. Who we have no doubt will be sailing as soon as he can walk!
