Jimmy Cornell launches new Ocean Atlas at London on water Boat Show

Owner and Chairman of Fox’s Marina & Boatyard, Richard Matthews, caught up with long-time friend and world-renowned yachtsman, Jimmy Cornell, at the London On Water Yacht & Boat Show, recently held in St Katharine Docks, where Jimmy was launching the revised second edition of his Cornells’ Ocean Atlas.

Jimmy has sailed over 200,000 miles in all oceans of the world, including three circumnavigations as well as voyages to Antarctica, Patagonia, Alaska, Greenland, Arctic Canada and Spitsbergen. As the founder of the highly successful ARC transatlantic rally, Jimmy Cornell is credited with having devised the offshore cruising rally concept. In the early days of the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers, Richard Matthews was a great supporter of this transatlantic event and Oyster yachts were consistently the largest fleet of yachts to take part in the ARC each year.

Having just returned from racing in the Caribbean, Richard is planning to sail to New Zealand to watch the last stages of the next America’s Cup, where he will put his copy of the new edition of Cornell’s Ocean Atlas to good use in preparation for that long voyage.
