Will Taylor-Jones

Managing Director

Will has a lifetime’s experience of cruising and offshore racing yachts and has spent 30 years in the marine industry with hands on, practical boat-building knowledge of both modern and traditional yachts up to 100’ LOA. Will joined Fox’s Marina & Boatyard from the internationally renowned yachtbuilder, Oyster Yachts.

Growing up on the east coat of England within a sailing family, childhood experiences afloat soon developed into a lifetime passion. After training at the International Boatbuilding Training College (IBTC) and establishing himself as a boat builder, Will joined the Lloyds of London Yacht Club owned yacht Lutine, initially overseeing her refit at the famous Camper and Nicholsons’ Gosport yard. This was followed by further custom race boat building and sailing, both in the UK and Australia, including competing in Sydney Hobart races and notable victories in the Round Britain and Fastnet races with his own projects.

Will’s early career at Oyster Yachts included roles in the build yards as well as commissioning, aftersales and customer care operations, all of which helped develop a good sense of what worked and what didn’t in the marine environment. Armed with this experience and his technical background, Will developed Oyster’s central Quality and Technical departments, in a role that spanned over 15 years, before joining Fox’s in 2013.

Mark Underwood

Fox’s Group Financial Director

A qualified accountant and very keen golfer, Mark was Financial Controller at Oyster Yachts for over 10 years and has many years experience in the marine industry. He recently took over as Group Financial Director at Fox’s and looks after the finances for the Fox’s Marina & Boatyard business and Fox’s Chandlery.

Mark used to own a yacht with his father, but he describes himself as very much a ‘fair weather’ sailor and now prefers to spend his spare time on the links of a golf course rather than getting wet at sea!

Lucy Taylor

Office Manager

Lucy grew up in Suffolk and having graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2011 started her career in the marine industry working at Oyster Yachts. Here she quickly progressed to become a senior member of the Customer Service team and in 2014 moved to Oyster’s new Southampton head office to help set up their Aftersales department – dealing with the spare parts requirements for owners of Oyster Yachts ranging from 62ft to 125ft.

A move back home, to be closer to friends and family, enabled Fox’s to secure Lucy’s services and she quickly proved herself, taking over as Office Manager. Lucy assists with all aspects of the business – providing general support to all departments, taking refit and berthing enquiries and organising Fox’s own aftersales and spare parts supply – sending parts to boats all around the world. Lucy is your first point of contact when you visit Fox’s Marina & Boatyard.

Ralph Catchpole

Services Manager

Ralph began his career at Fox’s as a 15 year-old apprentice in September 1972 and is our longest serving member of the Fox’s team.

Back in the 1970’s, Ralph started out learning how to make sets of rigging, haul and launch boats, fitting engines and general woodwork before progressing on to building various one-off cold-moulded race boats, which included Odd Job, Tumblehome, Silver Spirit and Santa Evita. Ralph was one of the team who built the Fox 700 range of motorboats and also produced the mould tools for Shetland Boats, Mirage Yachts, the SJ32s and SJ36’s as well as the last wooden boat built at Fox’s, Arethusa, in 1979.

When the Fox’s yard moved to its current site, Ralph was promoted to Workshop Supervisor then Workshop Manager before progressing into his current role as Services Manager. With his range of knowledge, experience and legendary memory – Ralph Catchpole is the best starting point for any boat related enquiry.

John Jonas

Marina Manager

A lifelong sailing enthusiast, JJ, as he is known by staff and customers alike here at Fox’s, grew up around boats and has never ventured far from the water.

JJ set out on his career in the marine industry in 1974 as an apprentice at the respected Norfolk boatbuilder, E C Landamore, before joining the Fox’s yard over 30 years ago in 1986.

Over the years, JJ has sailed and raced various dinghies competitively and taken part in many North Sea races on all types of yachts. Unsurprisingly his most memorable yacht race was the 1979 Fastnet, which he says, “blew a bit!”

When he’s not busy working at Fox’s, JJ can be found on board his Oyster 26, tinkering with a Landrover or on the golf course!

Clare Payne

Administration - Rigging & Electronics

After five years working in the City, Clare decided on a change of direction and, having never set foot on a boat, went to work for Sunsail in Croatia! This experience led her to spend the next five years crewing superyachts in the Mediterranean and Caribbean and an Atlantic crossing on a 20m catamaran.

After a spell working in a boatyard in France, Clare returned to the UK in 2009 and after passing her Yacht Master Offshore in 2010 was all set to take a First Mate’s job on a classic yacht in Falmouth when she met her future husband, a member of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers stationed at nearby RAF Wattisham and, happily for Fox’s, relocated to Ipswich.

Clare first joined Fox’s in 2010 as a rigging apprentice and was with us for 18 months until her husband was posted to Reading in 2012. When the opportunity came for Clare and her family, which now includes two young daughters, to return to Ipswich in 2017, we were delighted to be able to offer Clare a new position as Administrative Assistant, Rigging & Electronics and she is now the first point of call for all our Rigging and Electronics enquiries.
