Marine Engineer

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a trained marine engineer technician to join our existing team at Fox’s Marina & Boatyard, Ipswich.

All applicants must be qualified to a suitable standard with proven experience in Marine Engineering.

A passion for boats is desirable and knowledge of a variety of boats is essential. As the post will require working outside year-round, it’s essential that all applicants are physically fit enough to manage this.

The role:

  • Diagnosing and repairing faults on a variety of marine engines, generators and systems
  • Ensuring all deficiencies noted and suitable recommendations are made
  • Installation and repair various marine engines, generators and freshwater systems
  • Applicants must have a good awareness of health and safety procedures in the workplace and exercise good housekeeping at all times.

The key requirements for this role are:

  • Must have Marine Engineering experience, including Volvo, Yanmar, Westerbeke and Onan and most major marine engines and drives
  • Strong analytical skills for methodical problem solving
  • Good time management
  • A strong team player with the ability to also work alone

Job Type: Full-time

Workshop / Yard Cleaner

We are looking for a full time cleaner to keep our workshops tidy and hazard free, and to clean yachts prior to handover back to their owners.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and able to work on their own initiative.

Previous experience of boats is advantageous. The post will require working both inside and outside year-round, so it is essential that all applicants are physically fit enough to manage this.

Working hours are usually 07:30 – 16:00, 40 hours per week but with some degree of flexibility required.

Marina Harbour Master (Weekends)

Our well established marina team requires a weekend harbour master to help provide additional cover.

First hand experience of a working marina would be attractive and all applicants should be happy to meet and deal with customer enquiries, have boat handling and general marine knowledge. Responsibilities will include assisting visiting yachts with their mooring and serving diesel.

This is a part time role, to provide weekend cover, working in conjunction with the marina’s weekly activities.

Trained Marine Electronics/Electrical Engineer Technician

A passion for boats is desirable, knowledge of a variety of boats is essential. As the post will require working outside year-round, its essential that all applicants are physically fit enough to manage this.

The role:
• Diagnosing and repairing faults on a variety of marine electronics systems
• Ensuring all deficiencies noted and suitable recommendations are made
• Installation and repair of electronic and navigational equipment
• Applicants must have a good awareness of health and safety procedures in the workplace and exercise good housekeeping at all times.

The key requirements for this role are:

• Marine electronic engineering experience
• Strong analytical skills for methodical problem solving
• Good time management
• Strong team player with the ability to work on own initiative
• Deliver the highest standards of customer service at all times
• Full driving licence

Workshops - Apprentice & Experienced Levels

Fox’s Workshops is currently seeking additional staff to assist with yacht refit and repair work.

We are actively seeking both experienced and apprentice level positions.

Experience of marine composite repair work, laminating, gelcoat finishing and paint spraying would be attractive.

Apprentice applicants should have an interest in boats and some practical ability, however of more importance is a willingness to get stuck in and learn new skills.
