Fox’s was delighted to see Oyster 82, hull number 17, now under new ownership and renamed Midnight, arrive at the yard for a comprehensive service refit.
Work initially focused around un-stepping the 33-metre, two tonne mast for a complete overhaul of paint and standing and running rigging. Having stepped the rig on this yacht when she was originally launched and commissioned, the Fox’s rigging team was well prepared for the task, which went smoothly despite involving a 90 tonne crane, two forklifts and more wind than we would have liked!
With the mast safely on the ground and stripped, it was carefully supported and tented for preparation and a full respray in Awlgrip’s finest ‘Oyster White’, prior to rebuilding and rigging with new rods and halyards systems.
Meanwhile, work on the yacht commenced with a complete upgrade of all her sailing instruments and communications equipment. Various engineering service work was carried out to the engine, genset, hydraulics, refrigeration and fuel, oil and fresh water systems.
New navigation and underwater lighting, cap-rail varnishing, a custom built lower saloon table, coach roof painting, overhaul of the teak deck and all new canvas work from Dolphin Sails & Covers completed the refit and transformed this lovely Oyster 82 into a yacht that’s as good as new and worthy of the iconic Oyster brand again.
