Les Voiles de Saint Barth Regatta win for Oystercatcher XXXI

Following a class win at the recent Heineken Regatta, Richard Matthews and the crew aboard Oystercatcher XXXI, the Humphreys 39 cruiser/racer fitted out by Fox’s Marina & Boatyard, are delighted with their win at the International Les Voiles de Saint Barth Regatta, which ended on 15 April.

In what turned out to be the final race of the regatta, Oystercatcher was struggling in a fading breeze. With the competition well ahead on the penultimate leg of the race, tactician, Gold Medalist Saskia Clark MBE, called for a bold ninety degree course change, taking a track half a mile above the direct course.

This turned out to be a winning call as Oystercatcher sailed around the, now becalmed, fleet and into a new breeze, which she carried to the finish. The crew agreed it was better to be lucky than good, and with a windless final day, racing was abandoned, giving Oystercatcher a class win on count back.

With two wins, the crew is now looking forward to the third and final event of Oystercatcher’s Caribbean 2017 campaign, Antigua Sailing Week, which starts on 30 April, when West Mersea Yacht Club members aboard will include Richard Matthews, Saskia Clark, Hamish Cock and Steve and Debbie Johnson.

Oystercatcher XXXI’s hull and deck mouldings were completely fitted out and painted at Fox’s with appendages, engineering systems, electronics, deck gear and rigging all installed by the Fox’s in-house team.
