Refit work underway on MV Havengore

We were delighted to welcome Havengore back to Fox’s for her 2017 MCA survey and ongoing restoration work.  This is the fourth year in succession that the classic, ex Port of London survey vessel has returned to Fox’s from her berth at St Katharine Docks, where she continues to offer corporate hospitality and is often called upon to take part in various ceremonial duties on the River Thames.

To enable this, Havengore is maintained by Fox’s to commercial standards and, in addition to the requirements of the MCA survey and associated work, Fox’s shipwrights are working through an ongoing plan of restoration that is currently focused on the deck and its associated structure.

Ultimately much of the 10″ x 8″ solid oak beam-shelf, totalling around 180ft in length, along with the inboard carlin and associated intermediate oak deck beams, will be replaced.  The hull has been carefully braced to ensure fair form is retained, whilst the transom sections are laminated in situ and localised repairs to original steamed timbers and upper sections of double diagonal teak hull planking are carried out.

To allow this work to be carried out, the original solid teak deck and margins have been lifted plank by plank, carefully cleaned up and new caulking rebates machined in preparation for relaying over the new deck structure.

We will bring you further updates and pictures as this exciting project continues.
