Fox’s to design and build custom boarding gangway for the new Harwich Harbour Ferry

We are delighted to welcome the new Harwich Harbour Ferry to Fox’s where our Stainless design and fabricating team are putting their expertise to good use to design and manufacture a custom boarding gangway, specifically to enable the ferry to land passengers on the shingle beach at Felixstowe, alongside the Languard Viewpoint and Container Terminal.

This new ferry is licenced to carry up to 58 foot passengers and cyclists and will go into service on 1 May, replacing the existing vessel, which carried just 12 passengers.

The new ferry, which originally served as one of the lifeboats on the luxury cruise liner SS Canberra, will provide a frequent service throughout the summer months for visitors to East Anglia, for those with business between the ports and for the convenience of local people.

There has been a ferry operating between Shotley, Harwich and Felixstowe for over 100 years and when it’s owner retired in 2015, it was feared the service would cease operating. However

the Ferry was taken over by a young and enthusiastic Austrian couple, Christian and Lucy Zemann, who are investing in the service and we wish them every success with their exciting, new venture.
