Organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club in association with the Royal Harwich Yacht Club, the East Anglian Offshore Racing Association and Yacht Club Scheveningen, this year’s North Sea Race saw a fleet of 52 yachts from Austria, Belgium, France, Great Britain and The Netherlands take part in the 180-mile race starting off Harwich. With a 15-knot north-easterly blowing, the fleet had an exciting beat to the first turning mark of the course.

Racing in IRC Class 2, Richard Fawcett’s J120 Jameerah was taking part in her first event after being re-launched following an extensive refit at Fox’s Marina and Boatyard. Proving that customer service at Fox’s doesn’t stop when a boat leaves the yard, Fox’s MD, Will Taylor-Jones, was on board as race skipper and help set the boat up for the forth coming season.

A delighted Richard Fawcett commented after the race:

I just wanted to say an enormous ‘thank you’ to you and all your team for your assistance with Jameerah. As you know, Simon Ruffles and I bought the J120 at the end of last season with the intention of doing some RORC racing and Cork week this season, then the AZAB next year followed by the RORC Transatlantic race and perhaps beyond!

The list of things that Fox’s Marina & Boatyard has carried out for us is extensive. The hull has been blasted, epoxied, filled, faired and antifouled to a standard that we could not be more pleased with. The overhaul of the engine, propeller re-engineering and steering, complete renewal of all standing and running rigging, mast track and traveller rebuild has been executed faultlessly, as has all the other rigging and electronic work.

You and your team have been very generous with advice on what to do, how to do it, and most importantly how to achieve the best results in the most cost effective fashion. The fact that many of the team are accomplished sailors themselves has helped enormously.

Being a new boat to us, knowing the care that has been put in to the work has hugely increased our confidence in the vessel especially as we plan to trust our lives to her. The Fox’s team has done a great job of communicating with us so we have felt fully in control of decisions, and everything has been kept smoothly on budget and on time.

We have just returned from Holland after completing the RORC North Sea Race where we were sailing against many experienced and professional teams. We are delighted to report that we achieved 3rd in Class and 9th Overall which far exceeded our expectation for our first proper race.

Thanks to all the staff at Fox’s for helping us achieve this.”

Richard Fawcett – Co-owner of Jameerah
