Refit at Fox’s for Thames cruiser Havengore

posted on 3rd February 2014 within

We are delighted to welcome the prestigious and historic River Thames cruiser, Havengore to Fox’s Marina & Boatyard, for her annual maintenance and refit.

Havengore was specially commissioned by the Port of London Authority in 1954 to act both as its flagship and principal survey vessel. Constructed to the highest standards of British craftsmanship using English oak and teak, she was completely restored between 1997 and 2008.

This distinguished vessel continues to take part in ceremonial occasions and the hosting of visiting dignitaries in addition to providing a superb dining and hospitality experience.

In 1965, watched live by a worldwide audience of 350 million, Havengore took centre stage during the funeral of Sir Winston Churchill as she was used to carry him on his final journey along the River Thames.

In 2012, Havengore carried members of the royal family as part of Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in a flotilla of over a thousand vessels during the River Thames pageant.

“Havengore has just left Ipswich after her first refit at Fox’s Marina. This year we had some difficult work to do on Keel Bolts/Band, as well as the usual things that a boat of Havengore’s age and pedigree requires. There were some complex issues to overcome but we found Fox’s extremely proactive in finding the best solutions whilst observing the integrity of the boat. The facilities were second to none, they have a highly motivated team who were efficient and easy to work with. The refit was superbly managed, and we are extremely happy with the quality of the work, all of which was delivered on time and to budget”.
